NHS Health Checks
NHS health checks are available to all patients aged 40-74 who do not have any pre-existing conditions. Patients are routinely called into their own GP practice on a 5-year cycle to ensure they are continuously reviewed.
By monitoring overall health including BMI, BP, cholesterol level, alcohol intake and physical activity levels it helps in informing as to whether patients may be at higher risk of developing certain health problems such as heart disease, diabetes or kidney disease.
At the end of each check patients have a chance to discuss their results and will receive support to improve health and reduce overall risk.
The benefits include early identification of conditions where symptoms may not yet exist, and an overall reduction of patients developing long term chronic diseases.
